New Drupal-Driven Site

Submitted by tranquileye on Tue, 2006-02-21 13:55.

The project to reform the Free Media Archive in Drupal is nearly complete. I have reformatted and added material from the existing archive, and added another thirty or so documents.

I have started to categorize the collection, but will hold off until Drupal 4.7 is released, which includes a folksonomy tagging feature.

The free media papers make up a collection of material about Canadian campus and community radio, micro and pirate broadcasting, and community networking. It is very much an "in progress" resource, drawn from my personal collection of texts and documents. Free expands significantly on the resources contained in my Hack the Air site, created in 1996, and the free media archive of 2000.

I have been involved with Canadian community media in one form or another since 1985, most recently working on the National Campus and Community Radio Association (Canada) advisory board to establish,in cooperation with Canada's other community radio associations, the Community Radio Fund of Canada. I have attempted to preserve a wide range of material about the stations at which I worked and the national organizations that have represented community radio. This site does not present anything close to an exhaustive history of community media in Canada; rather, my objective is to share primary documents for the benefit of researchers and others interested in free media.

If you have comments about the site, or material you would like to contribute, please feel free to contact me.
